Shiloh Shepherds are a Giant relatively new breed.Rare Breed.Shiloh Shepherds were first recognized by the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA) in 1991 . The breed standard calls for an impression of nobility and intelligence.
Shiloh Shepherds are very similar to German Shepherds, but  larger and heavier, with calmer and more easygoing personality. They are athletic but tend to have stamina and not high vigor.
The Shiloh Shepherd is noble and of Giant size.
Their beauty speaks for itself.
They come in two kinds of coats plush (long hair) and smooth short hair.

The goal was to produce a larger, sounder dog with the beauty and intelligence of the German Shepherd founding stock. Some believe that a Shiloh Shepherd is simply a large German Shepherd Dog. Shilohs are not giant GSD's but a separate rare breed

They are very easy to train, very intelligent and eager to work at the highest levels of competition.  They make a wonderful pet, and are not aggressive.
Shilohs make an excellent protector for families and children. Because of their mild, friendly and loving temperament, they interact very well with children, other dogs, cats and animals. It is unusual to find an aggressive or vicious dog.

Because of their gentle temperament, Shilohs are not appropriate for police work. On the other hand, they are very good for therapy work and search and rescue. People call them "gentle giants".

Everything about the Shiloh Shepherd reminds me of the Shepherd of years ago who were my best friends. The Shiloh is bred for there intelligence and their temperament. They are wonderful with children and wary of strangers.

You can see in their eyes an almost human look, alert and happy, self confident and so courageous. Faithfully protecting there home and those they love.

They are not high drive and anxious dogs, but calm and relaxed in whatever type of home or apartment you live in. They are bred to be working dogs and need exercise every day to keep them fit.

Socializing them with other dogs and people from a young age and training them with a loving but firm hand is very important. Their coats vary; the plush need brushing every day, and the smooth coat is minimal grooming. The Shiloh is considered to be in the Herding group.

They are heavy, broad and strong, and easy to train. They are seen in Search and Rescue and Service dogs who help the disabled, and Therapy dogs.

Service animal is a term used  that helps a physically or mentally disabled person. A guide dog is also a service dog. Like guide and hearing dogs, service dogs are allowed in public when accompanying there disabled handler. Check out the links for more information of Service dogs and Search and Rescue.

There are several registries for the Shiloh Shepherd Dog because as the breed has developed and more people have come to love and embrace the Shiloh, different opinions have arisen about how best to serve the breed.  Puppies come with pedigree papers and are registered with NSBR (National Shiloh Breed Registry)
and or the SSBA {Shiloh Shepherd Breed Association} The breed is also recognized by ARBA (American Rare Breed Association
